2019 marks a new chapter for Simon Geschke with the German changing teams for the first time in his ten-year career. The 32-year-old, whose trademark beard makes him recognisable in the thick of the peloton, brings a wealth of experience to CCC Team with 12 Grand Tour and 18 Monument participations to his name, including a solo stage win at the Tour de France in 2015 which is arguably the highlight of his career to date.
Geschke has made a name as a key team player over the years and contributed to his team’s overall Giro d’Italia win in 2017 and second place at the Tour de France in 2018. Geschke’s all rounder profile makes him particularly suited to the Ardennes Classics and hillier stage races, as well as Grand Tour stages suited to opportunists.
I knew I wanted to be a professional cyclist when…
When I was 12 years old and I watched Jan Ulrich win the Tour de France.
My greatest racing memory is…
Winnning a stage of the Tour de France because it is the biggest victory of my career and a childhood dream.
The race I dream of winning is…
Strade Bianche is one of my favorite races because it has a special character and the parcours suits me. I like that style of racing and the gravel sections make it special. I love racing in Italy, especially Tuscany.
If I wasn’t a professional cyclist, I would be…
Maybe a pilot.
