Serge Pauwels brings a wealth of experience to CCC Team in 2019, which marks his 11th season as a professional cyclist. Pauwels’ consistency throughout his career has seen the Belgian come close to a Tour de France stage win on numerous occasions, before claiming the biggest win of his career with a stage and overall victory at the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire. Pauwels returned to the Tour de Yorkshire podium with third place in 2018, behind winner and now-teammate Greg Van Avermaet.

Pauwels’ aggressive style of racing and strong climbing ability see him thrive at the Ardennes classics and are regularly on display during the Grand Tours, where he often finds himself in the breakaway on a day for opportunists. With 12 Grand Tour and 17 Monument participations to his name, Pauwels assumes the role of one of CCC Team’s most-experienced riders in 2019.

I knew I wanted to be a professional cyclist when…

When I first saw the Tour de France as a kid when I was on holidays in the French Alpes with my family.

My greatest racing memory is…

Winning the Tour de Yorkshire in 2017.

The race I dream of winning is…

A stage in the Tour de France because I think that would make my career complete. Then I would be really satisfied with my career.

If I wasn’t a professional cyclist, I would be…

I’ve studied Applied Economics so I would probably be working in an office.
