The Belgian rider was the first of CCC Team’s five remaining riders to roll off the ramp and he quickly settled into his rhythm, powering around the course to stop the clock at 11 minutes 22 seconds, 40 seconds behind the early benchmark, and eventual winning time of Filippo Ganna (INEOS Grenadiers)
Despite starting early, Van Hooydonck’s remained high up on the provisional leaderboard and as the final riders rolled across the line, it was clear that he had done enough to secure a place in the top ten at the end of the day.
Will Barta also put in a solid performance on the final stage, finishing just outside the top ten in 12th place after an intense day at the front of the race yesterday as part of the breakaway.
Meanwhile, Víctor de la Parte finished the day 15th on the General Classification behind overall race winner Simon Yates (Mitchelton-Scott)
Quotes From the Finish Line
Nathan Van Hooydonck:
“I am super happy with a top ten finish on today’s time trial. Last year, I did my best time trial power-wise and I was 17th so it didn’t say a lot but, this year, to finish eighth amongst all of the riders here is pretty good. I can definitely feel satisfied with my result. This is my first time trial since the Vuelta last year so it’s been a while but I have done a good amount of TT training which definitely helps and now I hope to do another good one at my next race. After my day in the breakaway at the start of the race, I was pretty tired and my legs weren’t feeling super good but today’s ride showed that I have recovered pretty well after a hard week and now I feel like I am in good shape moving forward.”
