As the defending champion, Černý was the last rider to roll down the start ramp, and he was able to show his strength, speed, and power out on the predominantly flat course to stop the clock at 51’34”, seconds.
Despite leaving everything out on the road, another national title wasn’t meant to be for Černý this year and in the end, he finished second 33 seconds behind the eventual winner, Jan Bárta (Elkov – Author Cycling Team).
Quotes From the Finish Line
“This year, the course didn’t suit me very well. It was windy out there today too and it was a predominantly flat course, including some little technical sections, and there were not many points where you could take some time to recover.”
“I felt that the first part went well and I tried to find my tempo and a good rhythm but in the second half, I felt that I lost the good rhythm that I had found earlier and my legs became heavier. I had done some good preparation but Jan [Bárta] was just stronger today. Now, I’m looking forward to the road race on Sunday and seeing what I can do there again.”
