Despite crashing on stage three of Tour de l’Ain, Jan Hirt was fortunately able to finish the stage. Sports Director Steve Bauer provided the following update on Jan’s condition:
Unfortunately, Jan Hirt crashed about 60km into the stage. He has broken some teeth and landed on his wrist so we are going to monitor that over the next 24 hours to make sure it is nothing serious. Jan did an amazing job to fight back to the bunch and stay with the GC group until the last climb. He has showed that he is in great shape over the last three days in what was his first race back so hopefully, he can continue with his program and move on to the Criterium du Dauphiné.
We had Joey Rosskopf, Will Barta, and Georg Zimmermann in today’s breakaway which was a good opportunity for them to stretch the legs a bit. As expected, it came down to a GC day and with Jumbo Visma and Team Ineos taking on the race like that, it was always going to be difficult for the breakaway to stay away.
